In God's Armor, Track 11. A devotional on Isaiah 54:17.
The Scripture
"No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD." (Isaiah 54:17, KJV)
"If God be for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31, KJV)
The Heart of It
After nine songs about the armor and the fight, this song pauses to speak the promise over the soldier. No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper. Notice that the verse does not say no weapon will be formed. Weapons will be formed. Arrows will fly, voices will rise, schemes will be set in motion. The promise is not that the servant of God will never be attacked. The promise is that the attack will not prosper.
And Isaiah names two kinds of weapons, because the enemy uses both. There are the weapons of the hand, the sword and the arrow and the storm of trouble. And there are the weapons of the tongue, the slander, the accusation, the word spoken in judgment against you. The Lord covers both. The weapon shall not prosper, and the tongue you shall condemn - not by shouting back, but by standing in a righteousness that does not come from you at all.
That is the astonishing last line of the verse, and it is easy to miss: "their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD." The reason no accusation can finally stick to the servant of God is that the servant's standing was never built on his own record. It is His righteousness we wear - the same breastplate this album sang of - and no tongue on earth or below it can condemn what God has justified.
Isaiah calls this the heritage of the servants of the Lord. A heritage is not wages; it is not earned week by week and lost in a bad season. It is an inheritance, settled by the Father on His children. Paul draws the same conclusion with one question that ends every argument: if God be for us, who can be against us? Many will be against us. None of them can prevail.
So this song is sung from inside the armor, resting rather than striving. Let the arrows fly. They cannot stand against the Lord; they scatter like the foam of the ocean. The servant of God is held in a covering love that will never fail.
More Witnesses: Latter-day Scripture
The Book of Mormon carries this very promise across the sea. When the risen Lord visited the Nephites, He quoted this same chapter of Isaiah to them: "No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn... and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord" (3 Nephi 22:17). The promise was not for one nation or one age. Wherever the Lord has servants, the heritage stands.
And in the Doctrine and Covenants the Lord speaks it again in His own voice, to His servants in the latter days: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, there is no weapon that is formed against you shall prosper; and if any man lift his voice against you he shall be confounded in mine own due time" (Doctrine and Covenants 71:9-10). Three times in three books of scripture, the same covering promise. In mine own due time, He says - the vindication is His work, on His schedule, and it is sure.
How the Song Carries It
The first verse is spoken like a psalm of defiance made calm: "let arrows fly, let voices rise, let every scheme be set in motion. They cannot stand against the Lord, they scatter like the foam of ocean." The image is deliberate - not a battle line straining to hold, but waves breaking into nothing against a rock.
The pre-chorus begins to sing Paul's question as a settled answer - "for God is for me, who can stand? I rest secure within His hand" - and the chorus lifts Isaiah's promise into a solemn hymn: "no weapon formed against me shall prosper, no tongue that rises shall prevail." By the bridge the song has found the deepest ground of all: "the righteousness that comes from grace... no power on earth, no word, no sword, can take me from His sure embrace." It closes almost in a whisper: "No weapon formed. The Lord is for me."

A Blessing
Perhaps a weapon has been formed against you this very week - a trouble, a slander, an accusation you cannot answer. You do not have to answer it. Your righteousness is of the Lord, your vindication is in His hands, and His timing is sure. Rest inside the promise: no weapon formed against you shall prosper, for God is for you. Go in peace.
