Five years ago I was hiding a drinking problem from everyone, including myself. I had tried to quit a dozen times on willpower and failed every time. The night I finally surrendered, I prayed a desperate prayer: "God, if You are real, I cannot do this without You." That was the beginning. Through a recovery group rooted in faith, daily prayer, and people who refused to give up on me, I have been sober ever since. The craving that once owned me has been replaced by a quiet strength that is clearly not my own. I am living proof that God meets us in our weakest moment and makes us new.
